Dominica, The Nature Isle of the Caribbean
It is said that if Christopher Columbus returned to
the Caribbean after still recognize. Unspoiled and
for the most part unchanged, Dominica has resisted
many of the trappings of the modern world. Due to
the wealth of natural wonders it has to offer,
Dominica has earned its spot as one of the "top ten
exotic places" in the world to visit. To learn more
about Dominica, visit the island's official website
or the most comprehensive source of online
information at A Virtual Dominica.
Stretching from the rugged mountains of Pennville,
through the picturesque fishing village of
Calibishie to the crashing surf of the Marigot
beaches, the Calibishie Coast is one of the few
areas in the world where you can travel from the
seashore to the littoral forest to the rain forest
in little more than a mile. Experience palm-fringed
beaches, freshwater rivers with secluded bathing
pools, tumbling waterfalls and the soft wonder of
the rain forest with its exotic birds and lush
vegetation, all in a days' walk.
Adventures abound on the Calibishie Coast. Hike deep
into our rain forest wilderness to catch a glimpse
of the colorful Jaco parrot. Take a spin on a
mountain bike or take to the sea for great
snorkeling and world-class scuba diving. A wide
variety of accommodation is available along the
coast, from simple guesthouses to cliff side
cottages overlooking the sea to a private villa
perched on a mountainside.
The small villages of the Calibishie Coast, with
their strong sense of community, will welcome you
with open arms. Our friendly people willingly share
their knowledge and love of this unique and
wonderful area. Come, experience the rich culture
and untamed beauty of our corner of Dominica.
It's my hometown, I was born there in 1969, and
spend 13 years of my life there, once a year I go
home to visit my parents and spend much time on this
beach, yes that picture to the left. My time of
travels is usually May, June and October, I travel
those times because it's the best time of they year
to travel there. May thru June is the best of fruit
season and I just love it all. October, is festival
time, you know party time is always there, got to
keep the heart beat up.
